Bob Roberts Jr.
The 2009 Exponential New Church Conference was a blessing in a lot of ways. (Wish you all could have been there with us) I was encouraged to hear Bob Roberts speak on Wednesday afternoon and touch base with him quickly following the main session. I met Bob in Dallas last October and have followed his blog for close to two years now. Bob has a huge heart for world evangelism and the Church. You can check out the skeleton for the message he gave last week on his blog at Glocal.net. One of the underlining themes throughout the week was that of going back to a relationship with God and personal discipleship. This was most clearly illustrated through the life of Onnuri Community Church in Soul, Korea. This church which began with 22 people 18 years ago now has a membership of some 40,000 in 5 campuses in Soul alone. The community of Christ followers there have rocked their own country for Christ and extends His love all over the world. In addition to modeling their church after the book of Acts, Onnuri has three basic principles which every Christ followers engages in on a daily and weekly basis. These are: 1. A daily quiet time alone with God and His word, 2. A weekly meeting with a mature Christ follower for 14 weeks and then 3. An ongoing weekly small group gathering where people share from their daily quiet time and encourage each other. It really all makes since. People come to Christ and then get connected with each other. They then become an influence in their world and then others see the love of Christ and are changed themselves.
I’ve got a lot of other great observations, but you’ll have to buy me coffee to hear it all. Thanks Bob. Thanks Onnuri Community Church. Thanks NHCC for being such a great Church family. We’ll see some of you this week and the rest on Sunday. Keep going on your end.
